Who We Are
The African & Caribbean Association of Foyle is a community organisation
within a changing community. The organisation’s voluntary work
covers the Derry City Council area. In this locality, it is estimated
that there just under 80 people of the Afro-Caribbean background. This
number is an approximation but a more definite demographic analysis
which will include measurements such as age, nationality and other variables
will be made available on this website. The organisation also has many
energetic members who are not from Africa & the Caribbean. They genuinely
give their time and resource to support the voluntary work of ACAF.
Being a member of ACAF gives you access and possible linkages with other like-minded organisations and institutions that promote diversity and community mobilisation or change for the better. For those who join, especially the youth, there will be networking opportunities with organisations in other parts of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. ACAF is committed to being part of the on-going multi-cultural diversity aims of the Derry City Council. Newly arrived residents of Derry will especially benefit from the cross-community aims and objectives of the African & Caribbean Association of Foyle. People of common decent from the Caribbean and Africa and those who are members from other nations can attend our monthly meetings which review the work we are doing.
