Voices from The Global South Research
The Centre for Global Education (http://www.centreforglobaleducation.com/)
has commissioned a research on that aims to investigate
and analyse our increasingly diverse society through a series of case studies. The case studies will present biographical profiles of
individuals that reflect the increasing diversity of our society arising from inward migration. The case studies will focus on three
specific groups: first generation migrants; second generation migrants; and refugees. The first generation migrants will be sub-divided
between economic migrants and those who are students and / or family members.
Refugees will include asylumseekers who have made claims for refugee status. The research aims to support awareness raising of international
development issues through discussion of the factors in the developing world that lead people to migrate to countries in the global North.
It may also promote the many positive contributions made by migrant communities to our local economy, society and cultural diversity.
To that extent, the outcomes of the research can support education initiatives that work toward intercultural learning in our formal
education sector and wider society. The Centre intends disseminating the research findings through our networks in the development,
voluntary, third level education, minority ethnic and migrant sectors through publications, academic journals, electronic media and
appropriate web sites.
The Project is currently looking for potential research participants who will be interviewed to this effect.
People from the Global South living in Northern Ireland are from Africa, Asia, Latin America and other zones in the
Southern Hemisphere of the Globe. If you would like to take part in the interviews,
please email Elly at: ellyomondi@gmail.com or Philip at: ppmcdermott@hotmail.com or phone 07922317860.

Zimbabwe Solidarity Campaign
Zimbabwe is still on everyone's lips. The suffering continues. In January 2009, it is reported by official Zimbabwean military sources that the country's infantry men are being fed on rations of Elephant meat A fundraising event for the Zimbabwe Solidarity Campaign was held in Sandinos bar, Derry on Thursday, December 4. The money raised however small, was sent to Zimbabwe to buy maize seeds for famers in that country.
